  • Yes, acupuncture is a very safe treatment when provided by a qualified practitioner. Duygu is a fully accredited member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC) and Professional Standards Authority (PSA), adhering to strict hygiene and safety protocols. She uses only sterile, single-use needles and treats clients in a clean, calming environment designed to put them completely at ease.

  • Acupuncture is generally very safe when carried out by a qualified practitioner. Side effects are rare but some people may experience mild bruising, lightheadedness or temporary soreness at the needle site. These effects are typically short-lived. Duygu only uses sterile, single-use needles and follows the highest standards of hygiene and safety to ensure a comfortable and low-risk experience.

  • Yes, acupuncture is often used safely alongside conventional medical treatments and can be great at addressing any side effects of these. Duygu will always take into account any medications or therapies you're currently using and tailor your treatment accordingly. If you have any concerns, you're welcome to discuss them during your consultation.

  • Most people are pleasantly surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels. The needles used are extremely fine, and while some individuals may experience mild sensations such as tingling, warmth, or a dull ache, these are typically very subtle. Many clients find the treatment deeply relaxing.

  • Not at all. Acupuncture is equally effective as a preventative tool as it is for addressing specific symptoms. Many clients seek treatment to support overall wellbeing, including stress relief, improved energy levels, better sleep, and emotional balance—even when they are otherwise in good health.

  • Yes, acupuncture can be safely used throughout pregnancy. Duygu regularly works with clients during all trimesters, from early symptoms such as nausea and fatigue to later support for anxiety or labour preparation. Treatments are always adjusted to suit the needs of pregnancy.

Appointments

  • Each appointment begins with a thorough consultation where Duygu takes time to explore your full medical history, current symptoms, lifestyle and the reason you’re seeking treatment. She may also ask detailed questions about your sleep, digestion, stress levels and emotional wellbeing to get a holistic picture. Tongue and pulse diagnosis are also used to help determine the most appropriate treatment approach. After the consultation, acupuncture needles are gently inserted and retained for up to 20 minutes, when you’ll have time to relax while the treatment takes effect in a calm and supportive environment.

  • Absolutely, Duygu is trained in additional modalities like gua sha, cupping and Reiki which may be incorporated into your treatment when appropriate and free of charge. She will assess your individual needs during each session and include these therapies if she feels they will enhance the effectiveness of your treatment. All techniques are explained beforehand and your comfort is always the priority.

These are not offered as a stand-alone treatment at align.d.

  • The number of sessions varies depending on the individual and their reason for seeking treatment.

Acupuncture works cumulatively, so a series of treatments is usually recommended, especially at the beginning. Chronic conditions may take longer to respond.

    • For menstrual or hormonal issues, weekly sessions for 3–6 months are typically advised.

    • For cosmetic acupuncture, a course of 8–10 weekly sessions is recommended initially, followed by maintenance treatments every 4–6 weeks.

After your initial consultation, Duygu will provide a personalised treatment plan and adjust it over time based on your progress.

  • You are encouraged to wear loose, comfortable clothing to allow access to areas such as the lower legs, arms, abdomen or back. It’s advisable to have a light meal or snack beforehand, as treatment on an empty stomach may cause lightheadedness. After the session, it’s best to rest, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activity for a few hours to allow the body to fully benefit from the treatment.

  • Appointments can be rescheduled or cancelled with at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will be subject to the full treatment fee, as this time has been reserved specifically for you. As a small, independent practice, late cancellations or no-shows can have a significant impact, so your understanding and consideration are truly appreciated.

  • We accept card and cash payments at your appointment.
